I just got done making a rough sketch of goals/racing for 2012--no training makes my mind work too much!! Though with sign ups going a year out, I suppose it is necessary!
I do need to be careful here, the longer I am in the sport, the more I get pulled to the external success. Very important I try and stay focused within. I see the dangers of chasing a spot--you start to smile less and do not enjoy those around you as much.
Having external goals is important as it sets up your entire year, but I need to focus within and how the process makes me a better person. That needs to continue to be the overriding goal--to be happy within the moment. Happiness does not await me on the Kona pier or the finish line as the top dog; if I am not happy doing the work, I need to move on.
I will say I went through a quick period of IM blues post LP, so I decided to make a list of reasons why I do IM:
-Life long fitness
-The people I meet along the way are good people and I enjoy being around them
-to chase a passion with a smile
No mention of Kona! Seeing this makes me feel better and brings back the love of doing the work. Important I remember this ALWAYS....this is what motivates me; the external goals are something we work towards as a result of doing something we love.
Keep the love, and live your dreams in real time.
(LP report coming....a bit busy this week as Jen is in Boulder living the dream....heading out camping with the boys now!)
Make sure to plan on the Norwegian event. It is a 70.3. If everythings runs well in 2012 it will be a full IM distance in 2013. We could also sign up for Norsman .. think you have heard about it? If you bring your wife shw can crew you or I arrange a friend.
ReplyDeleteI saw a picture on FB - your wife is doing well in Boulder at the womens EC camp. Today they are swim racing at the res and riding St.vrain loop. I guess they will suffer a bit, but sure they will miss it when back home.
You will visit me in Norway 2012, make sure to put that as well in your plans for nxt seasson.
I miss your company here in Boulder, but we meet again.
